Reunion Cars Courant d'Air

The French overseas department La Réunion, located in the Indian Ocean, now is a modern place, with the latest models of, mainly French, buses. Still, in the southern part of teh island some Peugeot 404 and 504 "taxis-brousses" remain, taking farmers with their vegetables to the local market. In the 1930's, however, Réunion's interurban buses were rather basic open vehicles, called "Cars courant d'Air" (Airflow Coaches). The most common type was the Citroen. One such vehicle has been saved, though it still needs to be restored. It can be seen at the small railway museum between the capital Saint Denis and the port city Le Port. A model gives a good impression of how the restored bus will look like.
