Guinea Bissau Quaster

Guinea Bissau is a former Portuguese colony south of Senegal, in West Africa. It is only a small country with a rather limited road system and few towns. There are very few large buses, most are medium sized or pick-ups, mainly Peugeot 404 or Japanese. The mid-sized vehicles are interesting as they are different from what is normally used in West Africa, the Renault SG2. Bissau uses Japanese midibuses and small trucks, which receive an open body. Both are used on all routes and large amounts of goods are carried on the roofs. One can see Toyota Coaster, Isuzu NPR, Mitsubishi Canter and probably also Nissan Civillian. The most common, however, is the Toyota Coaster. As a result the name of all these vehicles has become that of the Coaster. However, as in Bissau only Portuguese and local languages are spoken, the pronounciation has changed to "Quaster".
